Our Service Area

Braddock Carnegie Library Association is dedicated to serving the diverse communities within its primary service area, encompassing the vibrant towns of Braddock, Chalfant, East Pittsburgh, North Braddock, and Turtle Creek. While serving a combined population of over 14,000 people, our library strives to provide accessible and inclusive resources to meet the unique needs and interests of each individual within this dynamic community.

A Vibrant History

Braddock, Pennsylvania, a historic town on the Monongahela River, has a rich and significant history. Once a thriving mill town and cultural center, Braddock was home to Andrew Carnegie's first steel mill, which has played a pivotal role in the town's economy since its construction in 1872. Braddock and nearby communities experienced the effects of industrial decline in the 1960s and 1970s, resulting in a loss of vitality and a decline in population. Despite these challenges, our community offers opportunities for revitalization and renewal. Dedicated individuals have sought to further positive change and social justice in the area. Braddock's unique qualities lie in its historical significance as an industrial hub, its resilient community, and ongoing initiatives to promote art, urban renewal, and organic farming.

Nestled amidst the scenic landscapes surrounding Braddock are the communities of Chalfant, East Pittsburgh, North Braddock, and Turtle Creek. Each of these neighborhoods contributes to the area's unique character and diversity. Chalfant boasts a close-knit community with a warm suburban atmosphere. East Pittsburgh is known for its tranquil residential streets and picturesque parks. North Braddock, like Braddock itself, carries a legacy of industrial heritage while also nurturing a spirit of renewal. Turtle Creek offers a charming blend of residential and commercial spaces along its tree-lined streets. Together, these communities are bound by their resilience, shared history, and a commitment to building a brighter future. The Braddock Carnegie Library Association proudly serves as a unifying force, providing resources and support to all residents across these remarkable neighborhoods.

Our Impact

We understand the pivotal role libraries play in shaping communities and enhancing quality of life. Through responding to community feedback and strategic initiatives, we continuously assess our impact and measure our success in meeting the needs of our patrons. Our library is more than just a repository of books; it is a hub of knowledge, engagement, and collaboration. From offering engaging programs and resources to fostering a love for reading and learning, the BCLA is committed to enriching the lives of residents and empowering them with knowledge and opportunities for personal growth.
